Marty's Choice
Twelve-year-old Marty McDaniel just wants to have fun and play for his local baseball team, the Mud Hens, but Dad wants him to join the Diablos, an elite travel team. Marty’s a good, obedient kid who wants to make his own choice for once. He bargains with Dad, who agrees to let him stay on the Mud Hens, but as he juggles school, chores, and playing for both teams, he realizes he’s not the only one hurting. Mom and Dad are both working long hours and arguing often; and older brother Jesse, who lost his legs fighting in Afghanistan, is having frequent nightmares. When Jesse reveals a terrible secret, Marty wants to run away, but Samantha, the pretty Mud Hens pitcher, convinces him to take action instead.
